Frank Brockway was the hero of the hour with an unbeaten half century giving Totty the victory and the five points.
Failsworth batted first and where at one point 80 for the lose of just 1 wicket when first Srirangam made a break through which seem to get things rolling for Saint's which sparked a collapse. Fletcher, Brockway and Srirangam between them cut through FMCC batting with each of the bowlers taking a 3 for. The fielding was again good with only Yates dropping a difficult catch at slip and Smith putting down low at his feet while on the run. Moriarty jnr took the other wicket bowling well again. The big shock of the day, Rob 'the bolt' Holt wicketless!!!!!
Batting, and the usual good start by Totty openers setting a platform for Rowdy to com in, head the ball a couple of time before trying to run Shunts out and hitting a good 28 runs. With Totty on 80 for 4 , Brockway was joined by Fletcher at the crease. Brockway took the lead and after some quick singles began to attack the FMCC bowlers, hitting 6's and 4's to take John's home and him to his 50. One note he did run Fletcher out with 4 runs needed.............I'll let you off Frank! Well played boys.

****Averages Update****

Just a quick update for those top order batsmen that worry about the lower order stealing the batting prize for the 2's.

M.Jones 213 runs scored/ 10 innigs/ 1 not outs/ = 23.6 average.
M.Ainscoe 175/ 9/ 0/ = 19.4
P.Yates 72/ 9/ 0/ = 8
S.Hunter 145/ 7/ 1/ = 24.1
D.Moriarty 20/ 7/ 0/ = 2.9
F.Brockway 84/ 5/ 1/ = 21
N.Fletcher 87/ 9/ 3/ = 14.5
G.Fletcher 92/ 7/ 0/ =13.1
A.Smith 88/ 9/ 3/ = 14.6

So there you go boys.... Smiffffy sneeking up on the rails but it's the frenchman to be Hunter that narrowly leads the way a head of the annual batting averages runner up, Jonesy (so he tells me). Any complaints about mistakes......and you can sod off and do it yourself next time.

And not forgetting the bowlers, although yours truley seems to have been! A quik list of the leading victim takers.

R.Holt = 20 wickets ( two 5 fors)
F.Brockway = 9 (one 5 for)
G.Fletcher = 12 (one 5 for)
S.Srirangam = 5
N.Fletcher = 4
S.Moriarty = 6 (one 5 for)
A.Smith = 5
M.Ablett = 2

so there you go for the bowlers...... Robs top dog, but you would probbley have guessed that!

Q&A with Graham Fletcher

Graham Fletcher, all most raising a smile Posted by Hello

Q1. How long have you been a Totty player and who else have you played for?

In my fourth year, I think.
East Levenshulme approx 12 years,
Unsworth approx 8 years,
Rawtenstall approx 6 years. (ed. some years clocked up there then!)

Q2. Best bowling performance for the saints?

Last weeks (ed Chew Moor Brook match) 5 for 15 probably, although I have bowled beautifully, for little reward on many occasions. (ed. understateded and modest as ever)

Q3. Best batting performance for the saints?

Not sure, a few 30's and 40's....some not out! (ed. dont remember many 40's for Totty... must thinking of previous career, he's old and the memories not what it once was.)

Q4. Favourite ground in the NMCL and why?

Woodbank: Good playing surface, excellent facilities and near!

Q5. Least favourite ground in the NMCL and why?

Westleigh: Distance and surroundings, Blackpool sands retiree donkies.

Q6. Funniest thing you have seen on the cricket pitch?

A player at East Lev was fielding at mid-off, then his rather large penis, dick to you dropped through the hole in his pants gusset. This is as the bowler was approching his delivery stride. The batsmans jaw dropped at the same time as mid-off's bell end. The bowler screached to a halt and somebody shouted "can this be classed as intimidation" (ed. trust the old man to have a story little that)

Q7. Goals and expectations for the season, what are they?

To get my first hundred ever and possiblily win another game. I have the silliest hopes sometimes. (ed. well you never know whats around the corner)

Q8. Is there a date when you plan to retire or are you going to be playing when you recieve your telegram from the Queen?

I retired 13 years ago, enough said.

Q9. Do you find that shouting derogatory comments back to the bowler after a poor delivery (and the bowler knows that it was a bad ball by the fact that the ball is now inthe lodge) to be helpful?

Yes , it's my pull your f**king finger out type approch, you are letting the side down. Severe, yes but honest. (ed. I always found it to be a great help you old miserable moaning git, severe, yes but honest)

Q10. What is it like to field in the slip cordan with Mike Jones and Stu Hunter, as there is constant chatter of various degrees of positivity emanating from there?

Their 'mamby-panby' method of praising our bowlers effort when they are actually losing us the game or saying 'hard luck old chap' when fielders drop yet another catch or diving over the ball is sickening. It is obvious that the best treatment is a sharpe kick in the groin!!! (ed. whoever said cricket is an team game played by individuals may have been thinking about the old man at the time. If you ever get praise from him, treasure it! It might not come again for a long time....if ever!)

Totty again missed out on a win by not very much. Glodwick's flying start put them ahead but John's bowlers peg the home team back with some tight bowling from Fletcher snr, Holt and Brockway. 162 could have easily been much more.
Jones and Ainscoe yet again made a reasonable start but as with the season so far they didnt post a big partnership like they were doing last year. Yates, Fletcher jnr and Hunter went cheaply which left the old pros of Brockway and Fletcher snr to put Totty insight of the promise land (4pts). But alas it was not to be and Smith and Horner saw Saint's home for the point.

Dress Sence

This summer the dresses are getting shorter. Danny Moriarty models the 'Mozza' collection at the crease. Posted by Hello

Please Danny, took it in or buy a smaller shirt!

TSJCC @ Fothergill & Harvey CC (cup)

Another indifferent batting display that again cost Totty the chance of victory. Great effort from the bowlers but we need to give them something to bowl at. Out the cup for this year, lets hope we can stay in the division.

TSJCC are out of the stokes cup!

Second match of the weekend against F&HCC but the same result. The match mirrored the day before with the Totty batting this time slightly improving but still disappointing. Jonsey batted well with a hard earned 40. G.Fletcher was the only other batter to really contribute to the cause.
The bowling of Holt, G.Fletcher and Cotton was tight and repeat benifits as they cut through the F&HCC batting order. But that man McWilliams again thwarted St.Johns with 23 n.o. as he guided the tail to a two wicket victory.
Yet more promise but no result....the batting has to be better as the bowling seems to be improving.

Totty had aresonable start to the match with the bat but once the opening pair were split up the a collapse began which saw the next five batters go for a combined total of 3 runs. The total only looked slightly better thanks to the efforts of the young jedi, Matt Ablett who top scored with 23. In the field Totty tried hard and with fothergil's reversing the batting order they quickly got results. However McWilliam again became the thorn in Totty's side with a airel 30 to seeing F&HCC home.
