The Season Ends

Well the season comes to an end. So how was it for you? Well for me, my personal preseason goals of 200 runs and 15 wickets were achieved. I finished with 212 runs from 15 innings, hitting my first 50 and took 15 wickets from 51.1 overs at a cost of 232 runs. Not bad I think. I also took 10 catches.

The rest of the team? Well first of all a big clap on the back to Rob Holt for 46 wickets (league and cup). Micky Jones hitting 324 runs for the season...... but has he sneaked the averages?? Ste Moriarty taking wickets nearly every time he played and a couple of big knocks. Frankie and Dr Doom (a combined age of 120ish) showing all their experience, both taking wickets for not many and Frankie hitting a match winning 50 (running out yours truly on the way). Stu Hunter started the season flying with a few good knocks including a 53 against Cheetham Hill before leaving his form in France. Captain Smith with his "lets put' em in" theory had mixed fortunes with the bat, with some good innings opening up the batting and also some classic run outs. Rowdy Rowdy Rowdy what went wrong.....we will leave it there. Mike Ainscoe was always going to find it hard to follow up last seasons efforts but by mid point he was looking good to equal if not better his achievement, but then he went on holiday and disappeared for about 6 weeks and played no more than a couple of games for team two.
New boys Hunt and Srirangam made a good impression in the few games they both got in. Scoffer made a late season cameo taking wickets and running a couple of people out. Cotters guested and took wickets and Ste Horner seem to attract the ball where ever he was in the field taking some good catches. The young Jedi managed 50 runs for the season from 8 innings before disappearing to team one never to be seen again!
Finally young Danny Moz...... what went wrong! In the nets, preseason it looked like you were about to set the division alight. Fielding was muched improve as was your catching and abit of bowling claiming 5 victims was great to see. but keep working on that batting fella.

So that was a brief run through I know but if you look back through the scorecards on this site you'll see for yourself the winners and losers. It seems we might have avoided the drop...at least we didn't finish bottom, but we must improve next year and take our chances (Rochdalians @ home & Chew Moor Brook @ Home, both could have been 5 pointers).

Well I've enjoyed myself I hope you did? See you at the race night fella's and the curry night whenever that will be (8th Oct I think).

post a comment if you have a memory of the season you would like to share.
