Ste Moriarty's Q&A
Ste Moriarty almost smiling. Mind you Rowdy is talking to him just out of shot!
Q1, How long have you been a Totty player and who else have you turned out for?
It is about 20 years now at Totty, I have also turned out for Greenmount, Chloride, Brooksbottoms (two spells), Prestwich (british telecom) and Edenfield (just one game).
Q2, What was your best batting performance?
I bet everybody thought I was going tp say my 28 at Blackpool against the mighty Heath Davis but I’d have to say my 46 at Mather & Platts playing for Brooksbottoms a chanceless knock until trying to reach 50 by hitting a 6,
P.S. I did get to mention Blackpool yet again sorry!
Q3, What was your best bowling performance?
I think my best bowling figures are 8 for 16 at home to rochdaliens about 6 or 7 years ago, but I think my best performances are were I’ve not taken as many wickets but kept the run rate down example 1st calvary cup final (against Bolton Road) 8 overs for 16 runs and a game against Stand were I bowled 4 overs for 1 run, the batter I bowled to for 3 of the overs was Warren Hegg
Q4, Which is your favourite ground in the NMCL?
My favourite ground is probably the same as everybody else Greenfield, the whole set up is fantastic it is like playing in a proper village atmosphere, the team play cricket in a very sporting manner and the tea is fantastic (the way cricket should be played)
Q5, And your least favourite (easy Ste nothing Liabulous)?
My least favourite ground is probably Springhead not for reasons people could think I hope you believe me, I have a lot of very cold and wet memories over the years not least about 10-11 years ago when I was fielding 3rd man to 3rd man in the driving hail did not bowl then got run out with out facing a ball by some bloke called Derek who never played again, I cant remember what I said to him or what I called him but I think he plays his cricket in Iceland. (ed. got to say Ste played there twice and suffered frost bite both time).
Q6, you and Rowdy go back a long way, has it always been such entertainment for others watching you two together?
It probably has being entertaining for others but what people don’t realise is we both come back for more and we miss each other when one of us is not playing, so Rowdy if you read this I still think you should hang your boots up, use your bat for firewood and your helmet for a plantpot ( just kidding), love you to bits Phil and I would walk up and climb down Rowdy Hill for you, I think you know that. (ed. excuse me while i just dry my eyes)
Q7, Is there any chance of you making enough appearances to qualify for the averages?
In one word no reason I am over the hill just like my mate Rowdy.
Q8, What do you think the future holds for young Danny’s cricketing career?
I think Danny will make a very good Snakes and Ladders player in regards to his cricketing career, joking, I think if he listens to advice given by others he could make a decent cricketer in the future, this years progress with bowling and fielding has come on 100% his batting is still to reach the standard of the Darcy Lever game last year. (ed. come on Danny, make the most of this praise...you might not get it again soon!!)
Q9, Do you wish you had done anything different in your cricketing career?
Yes I should have stayed at Greenmount for a couple more years, just so I would know whether I would of made it, I also think my batting would have benefited from this.
Q10 What was the funniest thing you have seen on a cricket field?
There has being many but I will name one or two, the funniest has to be a chap playing for West Leigh, he was called Roy he took two catches on the boundry but twice fell over the same boundry board, then in the away game the same guy went for a catch and fell in a hole on the boundry and in the same game he was run out and proceeded to throw his bat on the floor and jump on it like a mad man.
At this point Ste has requested to set himself a question breaking the usual normal 10 question format but who am i to stand in the way......
Q11, What is the least funny?
Mike Ainscoe and Mike Jones opening partnership against Elton Vale last year, sorry chaps, nearly 30 years of cricket and this was so painful I had to mention this (just kidding guys).
(ed. well that went well.........not to many upset people i hope out there?)
