On a wet pudding of a wicket, Totty defeated a young Cheetham Hill side in a shortened game (25 overs, due to the conditions) Smith and Holt opened the attack for the saints, with Smith making a early break through with two wickets, clean bowled and a well taken catch at point by N.Fletcher. Holt kept it tight and runs down. Brockway first ball saw him get a wicket, bowled, but his second ball sees him injured and Ablett finish the over off. Ablett is quickly rewarded and takes a wicket, again caught by N.Fletcher in the covers. Ainscoe and Ablett leak runs but are at time unlucky with the ball dropping short of fielders and the short boundry due to the conditions of the ground not helping their cause. Raza scores 56 no which takes CHCC to 112 for 6, a competive score in the conditions.Good fielding and tight bowling stop it being a larger total.
The Ainscoe and Jones opening partnership, of which last seasons sucess was built on was rekindled as the pair put Totty in a match winning postion. Never the fastest scoring partnership, they slowly increased the scoring rate as the innigs progressed. When the partnership was broken, when Jones advanced to hit the CHCC leg spinner but was stumped after failing to connect, Totty were 70ish and needed 40 more runs from12 or so overs. In came Hunter and quickly adapted to the wet conitions and began to pick the bad ball, which he despatched in no uncertain terms. Ainscoe contiued to bat well too, untill a miss timed drive was well caught in the covers. Brockway made a brief apperance (supported by runner) but was soon ajudged lbw. The captain strolled to the crease to assist Hunter in see St.Johns home with 2 overs left.
Captains Man of the Match: Stu Hunter for his 39n.o.
Cheetham Hill return next saturday in the league, so lets see the same comitment next week please and lets not under estimate them.
