Well an excellent start to the new season with three 5pt wins. The opporsition have been of mixed ability but I do believe that on this form and with the confidence that has been snowballing I think we could be a match for anyone in this league. A swift return to Div III could be ours for the taking.

The new skipper is a breath of fresh air with a different slant on things. Last year was a step backwards with Jonesy as captain, a return to the old form.... don't get me wrong Jonsey is an excellent club man and a top chap to boot but he lacks a nasty killer streak, if you ask me, that is needed at time. It might mean I, and everyone else will have to prove our worth rather than just be given our turn. As for Mr Ainscoe there is something about him..... a little devious or calculated master plan in his mind.

Another loss

With the arrival of several new players theres always one or two departures, This time its Rob Holt , not so much a departure more of a season break. Rob wont be playing this season due to Uni work (think this is perfectly understandable), tho will be back next season. This is a blow to the club but hopefully the new lads can come in and fill Robs place in the team.

From M60 Ashton j23 take A635 to Ashton, follow bypass signed to Sheffield (A635). Pass Stalybridge still on the A635, keep left following signs to Holmfirth and Mossley. Through lower Mossley heading for Holmfirth under 'The Gateway to Tameside'. The Lal Quilla Indian Restaurant is on the right after 100 yards turn left into Clf Lane at the toll House. The entry to the club is 50 yards on the right down the hill, if you reach the Royal George you have passed the ground.

Preview 2007

Well its nearly time till the new season kicks off, We have quite a few new players hitting the club this season all will be pushing for a place in the team, but where there's new players we were hit by the loss of Matt Cotton who joined Brooksbottoms during pre season.

I am targeting 30 wickets or more this season as i now have no restrictions on overs that i can bowl and i also aim to establish myself as number 8/9 batter. This season alot of people need to make improvements, Matt Hunt has a training course with Yorkshire CCC behind him and we hopefully can look forward to seeing matt get some runs behind him and hopefully a few wickets, Phil McManus looks more comfortable in nets hopefully he can take that to the crease with him, Nick Fletcher needs to become a little less expensive with the ball and get more runs this season and i dont think i need to mention Rowdy! he has to forget about the last 2 seasons, this season is a new season and he has to get his confidence up and stop losing his head. Andy Smiths bowling has improved and hopefully will keep improving. Fielding wise we need to be more tight! Take our catches and get our bodys behind the ball no matter what. Last season catching was a big factor in where we finnished in the table, i am one of them that needs to improve on that count as well! I'd say only 2 people who played consistantly well in the field last season would be Phil McManus and Matt Hunt who both fielded well on a regular basis. Obviously alot this season will depend on player availabillity and who ends up in the first team at certain points but hopefully things will be alot better this season. we are a stronger team this season than we was last season even with out Matt Cotton!

Key Points

CDO is in negotiation with church to extend lease on ground, thus hopefully allowing us to apply for significant funding to redevelop the ground. We have some grand plans.
we will probably be splitting the race night/presentation evening into two events in 2007
the committee would really like more 2nd team representation at committee level but apart form Danny Moriarty, no one was forthcoming - this may be addressed at subsequent committee meetings
the 100 club is very poorly subscribed, with many people feeling that it's not a decent money earner (only 3 of last night's attendees are currently in it). With this in mind, Duncan is relaunching the club in July - letters will go out to all members
Richard Peacock showed that we make a loss on match day subs, but with a revamp of the 100 club and so on, subs will remain the same for 2007. With that in mind, we will be urging club members to contribute in any other ways they can eg match ball sponsorship. A couple of folks have expressed an interest already.
It costs us an average of 180 pounds to stage a home game!!!!!!!! This figure includes umpires/scorers/teas/groundwork/rent/insurance etc.
Kieran showed the new posters asking for new players "from 16 to 60". The club felt that last year's youth policy wasn't a roaring success, as it attracted Duncan Phillips, who is now pushing 85, and Pete Allen, whose age is indeterminate
Phil McManus and Stu Hunter indicated new player interest from their brother/offspring. Even if we combine their ages and multiply by 3 they'll still be younger than Boris

With the league been re-done, it looks unlikely anyone will go down from League 3. Elton Vale currently sit bottom of the league after East Lancs beat Chew Moore Brook at the weekend. Elton Vale do have a game in hand which is this Saturday against Greenfield. Broadway finnished the season as champions of League 3, and East Lancs won the last 6 competition.

Main thing is WE ARE SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next season we have to go up a gear. We have to perform from game one!!! Batters have to keep scoring runs and Bowlers need to improve, With Rob back all next season its to be hoped he can find that form that got him 40 wickets last season, Hopefully Cotters will be in team 2 more often and i am hoping to take more wickets and get a look in from game one rather than game 6!!!

2nd Team Night Out

I've made a decision on behalf of TSJCC 2nd's that our night out will be on Saturday 16th September, but where we go is up to you guys.
The options are chinese at the China Cottage in Ramsbottom, Indian at the Nila in Rawtenstall, indian at the one opposite the shoulder of mutton in Holcombe or the chinese next to the robin in totty.
I did text some people last night and all but one came back with chinese.
I need to know asap so that i can make a booking.

It seems that, with the exception of the top three (Broadway. Rochdalians and Fothergils) that the rest of the teams in the division, including ourselves don't want to break the 30 points for the season mark.
Check it out for your self on the NMCL site. It seems that the pack remain as tight together as ever and East Lancs are catching up!!!

The relegation battle gets trickier and trickier to avoid it would seem.
How many go down?

I'm sure 7 points from the last three would see us safe for another year.

At the time of writing this Danny has not yet posted the averages so it might be a load of old bollocks!

This season the batting has come on loads, I know I have mentioned this already but it worth further discussion.

Mike Jones has had a great season with some with a 75 and 66* being his best two scores

Mike Ainscoe has had a 64* and 52 (but he's on holiday and proberly won't score a thing when he returns, if last season is anything to go by).

Chris Payton limited appearances but has still posted a 39* and 48, hopefully more regular availability will see more of the same.

Stu Hunter I hope when he returns he maintains his excellent form with knocks of 87, 56, 43 already chalked up!

Nick Hudson only a one good score of 53 but looking good when he's been available and a matter of time before we see some more.

Matt Hunt no big score of note but some impressive starts that just need to be see through. If Matt could just take the step then he would be a welcome addition to the 'inform players'

So what does it mean? If we could manage to field all these players we would have a great protential and be a stronger team instead of being a team that's always looking at league survival.

The game that saw TSJ legend Steve Moriarty come out of retirement (Again!!!) saw East Lancs Bowled out for 125 with Ste and Dan Moriarty and Graham and Nick Fletcher taking 2 wickets apiece. Batting Well?

Another reasonable score this weekend but little joy from the bowling attack!
In all my time in team two I can't recall Totty getting so many good scores. But it seems that where as the total setting has improved the bowling, arguably team two stronger discipline has declined. I know that Mozza Snr rarely plays now and Frankie and the Old Man are seldom on the team sheet but it still seems that something has gone a miss. Rob is struggling to carry on from last season (I know he's only played a few games but last year he would have reapted 10 wkts or so from them), and we have not Had Shalom playing who took afew. Danny has done okay when he has come on, perhaps he should come on a little earlier? Cotters, when he has played has been great for us...... Again perhaps he should request a longer stint in team two, I reckon he would bag atleast 30 for the season!! Pilky looks promising and maybe we should see more of the skipper in short bursts?
As for myself I feel that in some ways my bowling has improved (legspin) but without as much reward. Improvement all round is needed.

So lets keep the improving the batting and the bowling needs to catch up and we should see the points come pouring in.

Well, we certainly got an answer to my previous blog of how good are they at setting a score!
Broadway are the best team in the league from what i saw on saturday. Admittedly if we had taken the few chances offered to us it might of been different but i doubt it.

Right fellas, we know Broadway are a good team, possibly the best in the division but we've got to perform ourselves and perhaps if their mind is on the footy we could well cause an upset. Last year was a nightmare (all out 56) which we can't allow to be repeated. Weather is supposed to be good and the wicket there is usual a good track so let make the most of it.
Smiffffy if you win that toss put them in and lets see how good they are at setting a score!

We all want England to win, but I'll be much happier if we bagged a 5 pointer.

This season seems to be dragging! More so because I keep looking to when I'm next available and even when I can turn out I've done.... well bugger all we the bat. With one score in double figures it been a bit of a come down from last years efforts. The bowling hasn't been much better with 6 or so wickets for a lot of runs.

Still a great win last time out for the team and lets see if we can't pull off an up set next Saturday!!!!

Anyway, I'm available this Saturday, and the rest of July (fingers crossed) skipper so hopefully I can do the biz at Broadway (if selected of course).

Tottington St Johns best performance of the season so far saw them defeat Chew Moore Brook for the first time. Tottingtons biggest win in years saw them bowl 10 man Chew Moor Brook out for 118 with Ste Pilkinton been the pick of the bowlers taking a 5fer. How come we didn't stay for a pint a Rochdalians on Saturday?
I can understand that people like the Robin, as I do myself, but why not a quick pint at a ground where they have good facilities? Fair enough if it's a late finish, you want to get back but there was time for a swift pint i thought.

But that my opinion! Anyway it seems it's that time of the season where we have to 'concerntrate on the league'.

Tottington St Johns travelled to Robinsons looking for their first win of the season. Tottington Opened with the usual Mick Jones and Mike Ainscoe, Mick Jones posted 66 Not out whilst Mike Ainscoe fell for 0. Phil Yates followed with 10, Stu Hunter failing to build on his previous game with just 5, Captain Andy Smith knocked up a quick 32. Debutant Ben Hope put 4 on the board and fellow debutant Chris Payton put on 2, Matt Hunt finished with 8 not out. Tsjcc posted a total of 151 for 6.

In reply Totty opened the bowling with Ben Hope and Daniel Moriarty, Neither managed to take a wicket and after 4 overs Daniel Moriarty was taken off and Andy Smith replaced him., Totty struggled to make a breakthrough and eventually Matt Abblett bowled G.Stockton to get a breakthrough, Totty couldnt build on this wicket and were comfotably beaten.

Tottington St Johns 2nd XI Slumped to their first defeat of the season at the hands of Broadway. Totty captain Andy Smith Lost the toss and Broadway Put Totty into bat. Totty stuck with the normal opening pair in Mick Jones and Mike Ainscoe, Things didnt go as planned for Totty who were 12 for 1 after 9 overs after Mick Jones was caught for just 5. Things didnt get much better from there for totty as Nick Fletchers wicket fell for just 1 after he was out lbw, totty were 26 for 2, things began to look up when Stu Hunter came out and Knocked up a reasonably quick 56 before been caught. Tottington were then left looking for a point at the end of the innings. Totty managed to hold on to the point when matt cotton and Daniel Moriarty (scoring his first run in 5 games!!!) held out at the end. Tottington posting a score of 131-7 at the end of their 45 overs.

After the tea break Broadway came out to bat, they opened the batting with R.Riley and J.Davies whilst Tottington opened the bowling with Rob Holt and Matt Cotton. Totty got an early breakthrough when Matt Cotton had J Davies caught behind by Mick Jones for 14, Tottington then got a couple of quick wickets to put them in the driving seat and on the way to victory until C.Hall came out to bat and rescued Broadway by knocking up a 72 and G Jones Knocked up 22 to see Broadway home.

Overall result:- Broadway win by 5 wickets

One new & One Old!

Andy Smith retains the captaincy and will lead team two for a second season. i'm sure he will see through the hopefully improvement on last years second from bottom position. Still we stayed up and maybe we can use this as a platform to build on.

By his side this year is the ever keen 'young jedi'. That's right Matt Ablett will be the vice-captain for this season after Mick Jones stood aside to let Matt have a go. So that's one over optimistic person for another........ watch it Jonesy or he might go after the keepers job next!

This also means that Young Danny best show Matt a little more respect i think. This should be fun to watch.

Right folks, is anyone interested in going to the Lancashire v's Yorkshire twenty20 match at Old Trafford as a group. The match is on friday 7th July (1740 start). It's Â£10 advanced booking, Â£15 on the door although i think it was sold out before the date. I'm sure interest will be as high this year as everyone i'm sure would like to see similar result as last year!

If you are interested post a comment below so we can order the tickets early doors and arrange any transport issues. It could be a team bonding/social event lads so why not. i know some might want to do there own thing which's fine by me. It's just another idea.... last year the old man, Jonsey and myself and a couple of mates met up with Smiffffy and Shalom. It was good fun and could put you in the right mood for the home match against Robbies the next day.

Well i ve seen the fixture list now and am informing everyone of the most important date for your diary. We are talking of course about the all important, not to be missed trip to Greenfield!!!!
Forget having breakfast on the morning of 2nd September because if selected you are going to experience the ultimate in cricket teas..................... i can't wait!

First game of the season is Broadway at Crompton Meadows on the 23rd April.

New teams to division III this season are East Lanc PM (dropped down last year), Greenfield and Elton Vale (both promoted). So Glodwick, Greenmount (up) and Woodbank (down) have moved on. Mike Ainscoe will i'm sure welcome the return of Elton Vale as he only lives over the fence and everyone the return of Greenfield diapite the distance.

Season Starts!

Even though it's only Febuary the season begins. Of course this is in the form of groundwork, which i couldn't make this time, but it will soon be the AGM (Clive mentioned a date but i forgot it). Then of course it's the nets and finally the matches will start. Can't wait!! In the mean time we will have to make do with watching England try their luck against the might of India.

This year young Danny Moriarty will be taking an active roll in running this site.......... so dont blame me if the Moriarty diplomacy raises it head and cause any probs! Dan please be careful.

The NMCL website now has the qualifying averages on it.

There is no TSJ representative on the batting as no one finished with an average higher than 18!!

Rob 'superman' Holt finished second but looks like the leading wicket taker in the league. Well done sup's.

Finally Mr Jones again failed to challenge for the keepers prize. Extra practise after school for you Jones!!!
